My Second Timestream - The Arthurian Mist

My first regeneration, and my first real long-term location assignment, was in Arthurian times, where I was placed as a small child, growing up as Lady Gwenhwyfar's nursery companion, baby-sitter, chaperon, confidant, and life-long best friend.  I was known in this timestream as "Derryth," which translates from Welsh into "oak tree."  I was expected to be steadfast and strong.  I have continued to use this name as my "last name," when circumstances call for me to have one.

I was introduced into the timestream as a toddler with a physical appearance of about three years of age, presented as the daughter of a couple named Duru -- also Timelords -- who served under Uther Pendragon, in the court of King Leodegrance, the man who would go on to eventually keep the Round Table.  Queen Duru and her husband had pledged their allegiance to Leodegrance early and lived at court with him.  I was introduced as the child of the Durus in order to be placed in the timeline to anticipate the Lady Gwenhwyfar's birth by exactly five years.  When the time came, then, it was the most natural thing to hand over her care and companionship to the daughter of a man who had been one of the king's first loyal subjects.

There are many things that the Timelords do not talk about, when it comes to the "Avalon Mist" or the "Niwl Ynys Afallon."  Many have only heard stories of this; it is not a time that Timelords are encouraged to visit, as the lines of fantasy and reality and multiple time streams often converge in the oddest locations of this historical nexus.

I am often asked if my friend Merlin was the famous Timelord known also as "The Doctor," but I can neither affirm nor deny this.  I have not, to my knowledge, ever met The Doctor, but Merlin, as a Timelord, was one of my best friends and my sometimes salvation in my second timestream.

I hope to tell many more stories about those times here.

Remembering the Future

Last night I had the opportunity to revisit a place that I have not yet been, and I'm really looking forward to it.  One of my assignments has been to protect the Freedom of Information, as information is a very important key across time.

There is a time coming in Steampunk Victorian Paris around 1903 when I will live in this house, and this room that I am in will house a printing press, a very large object that will take up almost the whole room.  I remembered the house when I stumbled over it, feeling lonely in this time without Gabor, my companion, as he visits his family.  I tried to look around at the landscape a bit to see if I could figure out how long it will be before I will be here again, but the area holds no hidden clues that I have left myself, as I sometimes do.  I did drop one of my keys in the corner of a room there so I will know that I am meant to take this house when I see it again.

of Loneliness and Oracles

Decided to ask a friend to consult a local Oracle today, just for fun, about whether I should take on a new Companion before I check in to home.  So the Oracle said,

"Showing the way will be hard for him
For you a test of will and whim
Do it if inside your heart says wow
If anything else do other things now."

I used up a favor to get that.  A good favor.  And it's something that my friend would normally have to sacrifice a goat or something to hear.  But what does it mean?   I did have a particular possible Companion in mind when I asked the question, and it fits that situation all too well.  It's good advice that I already knew was the correct choice.  I must travel on alone for now.

Darned Oracles.

Another delay: call to Ancient Egypt

Today I got a distress signal from one of the automated time portal Guardian Sensors that were randomly scattered across space-time by the Timelords ages ago, and are questionably still functioning.  It honed into the TARDIS background signal and found me just as I'd finished preparing for the journey to find out more about the Time War.

Old-tech Timelords' Guardian Sensor comes a'callin' *
This beacon is calling me back to the Lighthouse of Alexandria, to the coast of Egypt.  I don't remember much about the Lighthouse, besides the fact that it was one of the Earth's Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, so I'll try to do some research :) as I follow the guardian's beacon back to its troublesome source.

My time on Gallifrey

In my earliest memories, I was brought up on Gallifrey in much the same way that Timelords of my generation and class were: objectively separated from parents, with the purpose of continuing lines of Timelord intervention into timeline-damaging events.

I am attempting to record not only memories of events from those times but also actual diary entries that I wrote in those times as I continue this project.
